Who needs foster care?

Foster Carers essentially provide care for children on a temporary basis whilst they are unable to live with their own family. This may be due to a number of different reasons such as personal difficulties, family breakdowns, illness, neglect or mistreatment, or to provide a break for parents with a disabled child.

The duration of each fostering placement varies depending on the individual circumstances of each child and can last from a few weeks to many years.

Some young people may display challenging behaviour as the only way that they know how to express their feelings. It may be that they find it hard to develop trust or relationships due to past experiences. It could also be that they just need that extra support and a helping hand in various aspects in their lives.

Foster Carers help by providing children with a safe, homely environment with plenty of support, and by playing a pivotal role in maintaining normality. This goes hand in hand with encouraging the child to reach their full potential throughout their everyday lives.
