How will fostering affect my family?

We recognise that fostering affects all members of the household, in particular, your own children and therefore aim to minimise the impact of the placement of a foster child.

Throughout the assessment process, all members of the family are consulted and all birth children are individually encouraged to have a proactive role and involvement in the decision making and application process.

All family members have the option to access the family’s Supervising Social Worker for support or to voice any concerns.

All children are invited to regular events and activity days.  Their involvement in the Progress Young Peoples Forum is encouraged and valued in order to gain their feedback and opinions.

We also run a Sons and Daughters group to offer birth children support and an opportunity to discuss their feelings and views.

We understand the importance of spending time together as a family and as a result all foster carers have access to our own in-house short breaks (respite) provision allowing them ‘time off’ from their role as a foster carer. This is an area which we consider highly important to ensure a successful placement.
